CMC Foundation’s ArtShare and Opera Steamboat present Interplay
The inspiration for “Bring In The Last Red Asters” by Joanne Orce – 24" x 30, oil on Belgian linen – came from the art song, “Allerseelen,” (“All Soul’s Day”) by Richard Strauss.
Art and opera will mix when Opera Steamboat and the Colorado Mountain College Foundation welcome the community to CMC Steamboat Springs for the Sept. 29, 2023 grand opening of an exhibition of visual art inspired by musical performances.Twenty local visual artists took inspiration from Opera Steamboat’s July 2023 Interplay performance — a program of arias about love and loss — and produced works in various media. Featured artists include Joanne Orce, Wulf Wilhelm, Steamboat Hatters Kay McKenzie and Sam Daniels, Melissa Stadler, Gary Smith, Katlyn Miller, Marcella Chavez, Jeremy Gohr and nearly a dozen more.
The exhibit will be on the first and second floors of the CMC Steamboat Springs Academic Center, 1275 Crawford Ave. Larger pieces will be displayed in the gallery space of the first-floor lobby, and the rest of the exhibit on the second-floor gallery space. The public is invited to view the works from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. The event, an open house with wine, hors d’oeuvres and music, marks the gallery opening of the visual pieces and includes pop-up vocal performances by the Interplay vocal ensemble of the music that inspired the works. The exhibit is expected to remain in place for the remainder of CMC’s fall semester, which ends on Dec. 8.The public is welcome to enjoy this interdisciplinary gallery and performance project celebrating creativity and collaboration across different art forms. Admission is free, though tax-free donations are appreciated. Visithttps://events.r20.constantcontact.com/register/eventReg?oeidk=a07ejwjfa5f2fe9133a&oseq=&c=&ch= to RSVP.
