Art Barn Returns with New Artists
Story by Carly Pappas
Art Barn returns this holiday weekend, this time with two new artists represented inside the storied barn doors. Painter Chris Ruff and photographer Suki Shattuck will display pieces for the first time at the iconic North Routt barn.
Chris, who was born and raised in the Yampa Valley, is looking forward to his Art Barn debut. “To be able to show work alongside the very talented artists at Art Barn is a true honor for me,” he says. He’ll have three oil paintings on display when the barn doors open on Friday, July 3.
Other artists with pieces at the barn include Jennifer Baker, Dedi Knox, Missy Borden, Lance Whitner and David Marshall, who owns the barn and property. David is a sculptor whose home and studio is in the south of Spain, but he and his wife, Dagmar, built an American base in the Yampa Valley with hundreds of lodgepole pines from Dutch Creek Ranch.
With the help of local artist Suzi Mitchell, who started Art Barn, David opened the space to artists, both new and seasoned, to display their work.
“There are hundreds and hundreds of pieces inside the barn,” Suzi says. “And the barn itself really is a piece of art as well.”
The barn will be open from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. on Friday, July 3 and Sunday, July 5, and by appointment on Saturday, July 4. Work from the artists will stay at the barn over the summer as well – when the barn doors are open, the Art Barn is open, Suzi says.
